STLJ Submissions

STLJ accepts submissions electronically via ExpressO. Electronic manuscripts in Microsoft Word file format are highly preferred. Manuscripts should have one-inch margins and must be accompanied by a brief abstract and a resume or curriculum vitae for all named authors. A cover letter is also recommended. We do not accept hard copy submissions. If you are unable to submit your article via ExpressO, please contact us at stlj@uchastings.edu.

Timeline for Consideration:

STLJ publishes two issues each Volume/academic year. The Winter issue is generally published in December and the Spring issue is generally published in May. Generally, articles submitted before August 1 of the current year are considered for our Winter issue, and articles submitted before December 31 of the current year are considered for our Spring issue. Please note that review of submissions received between January 31 and May 31 of the current year may be delayed.
We are not currently accepting submissions for Volume 14. Manuscripts received after September 8, 2022 will not be reviewed until Summer 2023 and will considered for Volume 15.

Acceptance Procedure:

All submissions are reviewed by our submissions committee and peer-reviewers, and are evaluated based on their content, quality of writing, methodology, potential impact, and relevance to the Journal’s area of focus.

Length Limitations:

STLJ prefers accepting articles between 25 and 50 Journal pages (fewer than 20,000 words) in length. STLJ also encourages submissions of 250 footnotes or less. Comments should be no more than 7,500 words including footnotes. Submissions that exceed the word limitation will have a lower chance of acceptance.

Citations:

Footnotes should conform to the latest edition of The Bluebook. Please ensure that the submitted article has been fully edited both grammatically and with the correct citations.

Expedite Requests:

If you have received an offer of publication from another journal, please request expedited review of your submission via your author submissions account at ExpressO. Our editors will be immediately notified of your deadline and will work to accommodate you. To request expedited review via email, please include the author’s name, the title of the article, the name(s) of the offering journal(s), and the deadline date.
